Wind Turbine Environmental Impact

There are several things a wind turbine does for the environment.  Because it is green power, it does not burn fossil fuels and therefore does not emit greenhouse gasses into the atmosphere.  Also a large portion of the fossil fuel energy used by a generator is wasted as thermal pollution.  Waste from combustion include carbon dioxide, sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxides, particulates and solid wastes.

The data are based on an average of 1.5 pounds of carbon dioxide for every kWh of fuel burned.  Based on this, the following are the production by year and tons of carbon dioxide saved by the Forest City School's turbine.

Calculations: To calculate Tons of Carbon Dioxide saved take the kwh produced times 1.5 pounds divided by 2000.
The acres of trees is the tons of carbon dioxide divided by 3.
