 Regular Meeting

   January 8, 2018

 

The Board of Directors of the Forest City Community School District met for a regular meeting on January 8, 2018, at 6:30 P.M. in the District Office.

 After a quorum was established the meeting was called to order by the president, Bruce Mielke.                    

 Members present: Pat Hobbs, Eric Kingland, Bruce Mielke, Cindy Carter, Dave Bartlett, and Keila Buffington.  Members absent: Jesse Olson

 Dave Bartlett moved to approve the agenda with a correction to agenda item 6.e. to decision required vs. informational. Keila Buffington seconded the motion.  Ayes: six.  Nays: none.  Carried.

 Jesse Olson entered the meeting at 6:32 P.M. Bruce Mielke gave the President’s report and additional comments to the Board.

 High School Principal, Ken Baker, and Middle School Principal, Zach Dillavou, gave their monthly reports to the Board.

 Sup’t Lehmann gave his monthly report to the Board, discussing the following items: AEA purchasing program, radon testing results, historical archive shared with the District, calendar of events, January 22nd special meeting at noon, and update on the recent bus damage.

 Sup’t Lehmann reviewed the following consent agenda items: minutes of December 11, 2017, Regular Meeting, open enrollments, and personnel.  After discussion, Pat Hobbs moved to approve all consent agenda items. Keila Buffington seconded the motion.  Ayes: seven.  Nays: none.  Carried.

Sup’t Lehmann along with Kingland Construction provided the Board with a construction update of the Hanson Family Fine Arts Center.

Sup’t Lehmann shared an update on the beginning of the legislative session.

Sup’t Lehmann gave a first reading of the following Board policies:  206, 206.1, 206.2, 206.3, 206.4, 206.5.  After discussion, Cindy Carter moved to approve the policies as read.  Jesse Olson seconded the motion.  Ayes: seven.  Nays: none.  Carried.

Sup’t Lehmann presented a Resolution supporting the Iowa Public Employee’s Retirement System (IPERS).   After discussion, Keila Buffington moved to approve the resolution as presented. Eric Kingland seconded the motion.  Ayes: seven.  Nays: none.  Carried.

Sec’y Meinders and Sup’t Lehmann presented the District Financial Health Report for the 2016-2017 fiscal year and the current 10-year projections for the District’s Unspent Balance Report.

Sup’t Lehmann will share the Forest City Facility Assessment at January 22, 2018, special meeting.

 Sup’t Lehmann asked for permission from the Board to continue research and feasibility of transitioning the 5th-grade classes to the middle school building.  Dave Bartlett moved to approve the continuation of research as presented. Cindy Carter seconded the motion.  Ayes: seven.  Nays: none.  Carried. 

 After reviewing the monthly financial statements. Cindy Carter moved to approve the following statements as presented.  Pat Hobbs seconded the motion.  Ayes: seven.  Nays: none.  Carried. 

 After reviewing the monthly bills, Keila Buffington moved to approve the following for payment as presented.  Jesse Olson seconded the motion.  Ayes: six.  Nays: none. Eric Kingland abstained.  Carried. 

 Cindy Carter moved to adjourn the regular meeting. Keila Buffington seconded the motion.  Ayes: seven.  Nays: none.  Carried.
